When you have a set of high level requirements of a system, these often have to be broken down into lower level requirements or sub-system requirements. This section explains how you can easily break down requirements in Valispace.
Take for example, requirement SPC - 001 which states that the mass of the spacecraft must be less than 1200kg. Requirements SPC - 002 and SPC - 003 are child requirements, these state the max allowable mass of individual components of the spacecraft. This relationship can be viewed in the "connections" tab.
Adding Children to Requirements
To add multiple child requirements to a top level requirement, begin by clicking on the parent requirement.
Proceed to the “Children” tab on the top panel of the parent requirement details.
To begin adding children, click on the “+” button on the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
A “New requirement” box will appear, here you can input the details of your child requirement. Start by selecting the specification which the child requirement belongs to. For the identifier, Valispace will automatically suggest an identifier for the child requirement continuing the sequence of the requirements in the selected specification.
Proceed to fill in the relevant details for the child requirement and click on the “Create” button when you are finished.
The child requirements will then appear under “Children” as shown below.
The number of verified children can then be tracked under “Components” of the parent requirement.
